Water Painting

Gary Hume
Water Painting
1999
Household paint on aluminum panel

Hume traced multiple overlapping outlines of nudes taken from photographs in magazines, creating decorative space in household gloss paint. You can't tell what body part belongs to what person which gives the painting an uncertainty. Hume is known for creating works with high gloss industrial paint. I chose this painting because it really just popped out at me while I was looking through the book, I think that the white contrast to the green really makes it interesting and his use of line draws the eye in and keeps it wondering and looking.
