Boating on the Seine

Pierre-Auguste Renoir's Boating on the Seine, 1879-80 (oil on canvas) is breath taking. I enjoy impressionist paintings such as this very much. The boat sticks out in the water because of the complimentary colors used in the painting (orange against blue). This adds vibrancy to the painting. I also love the reflections in the water, it adds more color to the river and makes the painting appear so life-like, even though it is an impressionist painting. It is as if you are looking at a real-life scene through foggy glasses.
