The Reverend Robert Walker Skating on Duddingston Loch

Sir Henry Raeburn
1784
Oil on canvas

This painting is actually better known by its shorter title, The Skating Minister. It is one of Scotland's best known paintings and is considered to be an icon of Scottish culture. What I like most about this painting is that the minister pops out against the softly blurred background. Raeburn really catches the movement of the minister showing the minister strong and bold, contrasted with the hazy background. I enjoy his color scheme of earth tones and the neatness done in this painting.
