"The Snail" Henri Matisse

"The Snail"
Henri Matisse
Gouache on paper, cut and pasted on paper mounted on Canvas
1953

Henri Matisse did collage towards the end of his career when his eyesight began to fail.  The collages are simple, but are striking and are some of his most memorable work. I enjoy this painting because if its bright colors and shapes. The position of the paper does represent a snail in my eyes and you can tell that is what Matisse.  The placement of similar colors really draws your eye in as well the complimentary colors.
